Co-Management for LASIK in Helena, MT
For many people who suffer from refractive errors that impair their vision, their dream is to achieve visual clarity without having to put on a pair of glasses or insert a set of contacts. If you've always shared that dream, you may be more than a little curious about the prospect of undergoing LASIK. This remarkable outpatient procedure can modify your corneas to sharpen your vision with (ideally) no need for any kind of eyewear. Even so, there's more to LASIK surgery than just the surgery itself. That's why you'll want to rely on Montana Eyecare as your local resource for pre-operative and post-operative LASIK co-management.
Getting Evaluated for LASIK Surgery
LASIK surgery is a procedure in which the cornea's contours are reshaped to compensate for refractive errors such as farsightedness and nearsightedness. After your eyes receive a local anesthetic, a flap of corneal tissue is pulled away so that the surgical laser can make tiny changes to the underlying corneal structures. The surface flap is then put back in place, with dramatic improvements in vision evident almost immediately. Unfortunately, not everyone is equally well-suited for LASIK surgery, which is why you need a pre-operative evaluation. We can determine your suitability for LASIK based on:
- The nature and severity of your vision problem
- The stability of your corrective prescription
- Any underlying diseases or disorders that might make the surgery less than successful
- Your age (you must be 18 or older)
- The thickness of your corneal tissues (which must be thick enough to support the creation of the corneal flap)
Don't be too disappointed if it turns out that you shouldn't receive LASIK surgery. You might still be a candidate for a similar procedure known as PRK. In any case, knowing that you're doing the healthiest thing for your eyes is its own reward, and we can still fit you with high-quality corrective lenses that you'll love.
Post-LASIK Care and Monitoring from Our Eye Doctors
Your LASIK journey isn't over after the surgery. We need to make sure that you're recovering from the procedure normally and enjoying the right degree of improvement in your vision. That's why our eye doctors will want to see you for a follow-up exam the day after your surgery. We will then schedule a series of additional exams over the following year to track your ongoing recovery.
